Greed often overreaches itself.

There was once a Countryman who possessed the most wonderful Goose you can imagine, for every day when he visited the nest, the Goose had laid a beautiful, glittering, golden egg.

The Countryman took the eggs to market and soon began to get rich. But it was not long before he grew impatient with the Goose because she gave him only a single golden egg a day. He was not getting rich fast enough.

Then one day, after he had finished counting his money, the idea came to him that he could get all the golden eggs at once by killing the Goose and cutting it open. But when the deed was done, not a single golden egg did he find, and his precious Goose was dead.

Moral: those who have plenty want more and so lose all they have.

By this time you already noticed I read lots of stories and fairy tales. I still didn't understand whether I read too many or the society read too little... Perhaps neither one nor the other... Maybe I digested words too slowly and my blood absorbed them to shape my character, whilst most of people read and words went in one ear and out the other. Or then, it might be that they think they are only stories; not the reality.

Allow me a personal remark; I think stories and fairy tales are essential. Most of what I posted here, I read when I was a little girl and, at that time, I found them gracious, almost enchanted. I still think this way you know...
This story in particular I read when I was 8, maybe 9 years old and today, for some reason, it came to mind.
There are a few versions; however, this one is quite alike to the one I read once. I could write so much about this story, yet I'll summarize to this:

Happiness = Contentment

Without contentment there is no happiness, as you probably already realized. And if you didn't, perhaps I can write something about this in the future...
