“When you show your true self you are fragile, but it's not until you do you find yourself.
I find it interesting how a lot of people change depending on who they are with; I see it so often, even with the people I am close to.
Other people keep a distance, a mask. It's not easy being yourself, but when you do and people like you for whom you are you feel at peace.”
Zindy
When I was a child, I didn’t like much of Carnival; this was the only party I didn’t find funny at all. It was hard to recognise people, nobody knew who was who. Actually, Carnival is present all over the world, during the whole year. Everybody uses masks; some to deceive, others to hide themselves and don’t get hurt by the first ones. Once, I spoke with a very young guy which told me that he was tired of trying to adapt to people. I understood him so damn well. It is exhausting, at all levels!
When you drop your mask, all that remains, then it’s just you, your real you. And as Zindy said, this will reveal your fragility; you will be totally naked! Everybody will see you how you really are. So, what’s the big deal? Why people are so afraid of? The world has enough of everything to everyone; people will stay if they like you, if they don’t like your personality, they will go away. They won’t return! Believe me, I know that!
Now, you are whispering “so easy for you to speak, it´s so easy to like you, but how people will like me”? Well, despite some people’s opinion (negative opinion), no, people don’t like me, my personality I mean. Even when they say they do, they don’t! I guess it’s impossible to like someone like me, too many moral values, I suppose. People hate moral, isn’t it so?
I have some friends, as you know. Some try to understand me, others don’t. From times to times here it comes the sentence “I don’t know you, I´ve never seen you”, but the real fact is that they have; they just don’t want to accept! So, they want a picture to compare with what they already know, my personality; as if someone could see my real me through my photo or if my photo was such a big deal. All I say is that it’s hard to live for those which are different and don’t go with the society. The world has a culture of bullshit; people care more with the bodies than with the essence of the person, they care more with physical beauty than with the inner beauty, they care more with passion than with love. Like birds, they fly from branch to branch hoping to find something special in someone’s arms, but what is special it’s hidden. People always say that I am hiding myself, but am showing you everything, except my physical appearance. Others show the physical appearance, however, they are totally hidden. They keep their heart locked, hidden, away from everybody, yet they say they aren’t hiding.
That’s the world’s irony...
Masks can’t captivate anyone, can’t you see? I know most people like Carnival, but if it is to be living a Carnival our entire life, what’s the point of all this?! This is not living, it's pretending (to live)!
